How the measurement is calculated
Enter the labelled vial amount and the total liquid volume. The calculator converts those values into concentration, material per U-100 unit and the volume represented by the target amount.
Units used
- 1 milligram (mg) = 1,000 micrograms (mcg).
- 1 millilitre (mL) = 100 U-100 units.
- A 30-, 50- or 100-unit U-100 syringe changes capacity, not the value of one unit.
Formula sequence
- Convert the labelled vial amount to the target unit.
- Divide total material by total liquid volume to find concentration.
- Divide concentration per mL by 100 to find material per U-100 unit.
- Divide the target amount by material per unit to find the draw reference.
Worked example: 10mg in 2mL
This example uses the calculator's starting values and a mathematical target of 250mcg.
10mg × 1,000 = 10,000mcg total
10,000mcg ÷ 2mL = 5,000mcg/mL
5,000mcg/mL ÷ 100 = 50mcg per U-100 unit
250mcg ÷ 50mcg = 5 units (0.05mL)
10,000mcg ÷ 250mcg = 40 theoretical portions
